Jack Potter and the Golden Temple Slots
Usually, we like to see some originality when it comes to the themes being used by the games we cover. But to be honest, parodies and homages can be fun too, and when they’re well made, they can be just as entertaining as any other game – even if they do remind us more than just a little of a more famous property.
For instance, take the Lightning Box Games slot machine Jack Potter and the Golden Temple. It should take the average user about three seconds to realize that this is a direct rip-off of the Indiana Jones series of movies, right down to the logo, which uses a very similar font and color scheme to the original Indiana Jones title.
But just because this might be more than a little familiar doesn’t mean that it’s not worth playing. This game features some exciting adventures hidden just beneath the surface, as well as a jackpot system that could see you earning big bucks if you can survive a series of deadly challenges.
Setting the Stage
Despite the name and the jackpot game, most of the action on this machine actually has very little to do with the adventurous theme. Jack Potter and the Golden Temple is really a special feature that could be attached to any number of games, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see this bonus round (or similar ones) featured on other games in the Lightning Box collection.
The base game we saw Potter attached to was one that used a pretty heavy Asian theme – not something that tied directly into the explorer action you’d expect. The slot itself featured 50 lines of action that included wild kittens that were stacked over the middle reel. Symbols were about what you’d expect if you’ve played enough slots from this company before: a mix of the standard poker ranks, along with more thematic icons like lotus blossoms, fish, and swans.
Surviving the Challenges
But the real excitement in this game comes when you trigger the Jack Potter and the Golden Temple bonus round, which can happen at the end of any regular spin. This game has the possibility of paying out any number of prizes, up to and including three jackpots of various sizes.
Here’s how it works. You’ll start out needed to work your way through six challenges, the first of which requires you to pick from a grid of 15 locks you’ll try to open. When you pick a lock, one of three things could happen: you could successfully move through to the next challenge, you might instantly unveil a prize of bonus credits (which will also move you along to the next stage), or you could set off a trap.
These traps are dangerous, but not necessarily fatal. You’ll begin the game with three life points, and each trap takes one away. If you ever get down to zero health, you’ll lose immediately – though you can still keep the credits you’ve collected so far. If you get hit by a trap, you’ll still need to make another pick to make it to the next challenge.
As you work your way through this feature, you’ll need to walk over rocks, swing on vines, and pull levers, avoiding danger at every turn. Should you make it through to the very end, you’ll get to play a mini-slot machine, pulling until you match three symbols in a row. There are three possible prizes you could win: the mini, minor, or major jackpots. While all three are worthwhile prizes, the major is the one you’re really hoping for, as it is often worth $10,000 or more.
Adventure around Every Corner
Lightning Box Games isn’t always known for creating the most innovative or complex features, but the Jack Potter and the Golden Temple mini-game is definitely one of the most interesting and entertaining special bonus rounds we’ve seen on any of their games. Anytime you’re playing for a jackpot, there’s bound to be more tension, and we like the progressive nature of the game ramps up the thrills as you get closer and closer to the end. And since it can be triggered on any spin, you’ll want to keep playing to see if you can get into the bonus game. If you like fun mini-games that offer up large progressive jackpots, then you’ll definitely want to check out this title.
