Phoenix & Dragon Slots
Phoenix & Dragon pits two of mythology’s most fearsome creatures against one another in an all-out battle to the death. But who will win, the fire-breathing dragon or the mythical phoenix bird? Amid the era-defining battle, humble slot players can sneak in and attempt to win some cash. Will you emerge from the ashes any richer? Only one way to find out!
Phoenix & Dragon is a five-reel, instant-play slot developed by the German software mob Merkur. The mythical game is all about legends and lore, so if such themes appeal to you, it’s certainly worth a spin. The game has 10 flexible paylines, putting the power into gamers’ hands as regards how many lines they wish to play. You can play on one, three, five, seven or all ten. The slot has a return-to-player percentage of 96.19%, which is relatively high when you come to think of it, and the graphics are in full HD.
The layout
The 5x3 reel grid appears in a traditional Asian temple-style building, in the foreground of a lush vista showing a shimmering lake during the sunset (or is it the sunrise?) and various fronds and shrubbery. It’s quite a tranquil picture, and the game logo appears at the top, stamped on the frontage of the building’s roof. All wins pay left to right, and you must find a minimum of three icons to trigger a win, except in the case of the Geisha.
You can play Phoenix & Dragon at any online casino, with no registration required. The minimum coin size is 0.01 per line, with the maximum being one. As such, the maximum bet per spin is ten credits. Goodbye, high rollers.
Phoenix or dragon?
When the phoenix and dragon symbols land on reels one and five, you must select which feature you wish to activate. Who do you want to throw your lot in with: the phoenix or the dragon? There’s a key difference, so choose wisely.
With the fiery phoenix symbol, which shows the bird crowing at the red-hot sun, you’ll need to hit three or more phoenixes in order to win two free spins and flood reels one to four with random wild icons. If you select the dragon, you’ll also win two free spins by landing three or more, and reels three, four and five will also turn entirely wild.
No matter which you choose, finding two phoenix or dragon symbols can prove very lucrative indeed. Choosing the phoenix supposedly results in more regular wins, though the amounts are smaller than if you pick the dragon.
Whichever beast you opt for, your chosen symbol acts as both scatter and wild, able to substitute for other icons to help you form wins.
Other symbols
Further symbols include a Geisha, a colourful purple butterfly, a green stone dragon and an embellished red logo. There are also no less than six playing cards, comprising a 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace. The symbols are well-rendered and colourful, but nothing special on the whole.
The best-paying icon in the game is the female with the flower in her hair. She pays 10 for two, 100 for three, 500 for four and 2,500 for all five. Next best is the green dragon statue, which grants 50 for three, 200 for four and 500 for five. Then it’s the butterfly and red logo, both of which pays 20 for three, 100 for four and 250 for five. The ace, king and queen icons are linked on the pay-table, though they’re not ‘of a kind’ symbols. You must hit three identical cards to win 10, four to claim 30 or five to scoop 150. For the 9, 10 and jack icons, you’ll win 10 for three, 20 for four and 100 for five.
Double or nothing
A ubiquitous double-or-nothing gamble game is an option for players wishing to inject a bit of excitement into their game. It’s a simple 50/50 guessing game, and if you guess right, you’ll double your money. Guess wrong and you could quickly squander the sum of your profits.
A fiery battle
Phoenix & Dragon is a game that’s a little different to ones you might be used to. Few slots feature symbols which act as both scatter and wild, although two free spins is quite stingy and we’d have liked to see some multipliers. That said, the potential exists for some welcome wins in this mythical slot game.
