Double Bonus Spin Roulette by IGT

Over the years, game developers have tried their hand at altering and modifying many of the most popular games in the casino in order to add twists to familiar classics. Blackjack gave birth to games like Super Fun 21, Crapless Craps has become a popular variation on its namesake, and poker has been adapted into numerous table games that dot the typical casino floor.

One game that has been more or less excluded from this trend is roulette. Head into a brick-and-mortar casino, and you'll see plenty of players around the wheels, but they're all playing the same game – and other than the addition of fancier display boards or electronic versions of the game, it really hasn't changed in the past century. But in the online world, IGT has found a few different ways to spice up this game, including one known as Double Bonus Spin Roulette.

Red, Black, Green...and Yellow?

A quick look at the Double Bonus Spin Roulette interface might make you think this was a normal version of the game. The numbers from 1-36 are still there, along with both a zero and double zero, making this most like the American style layout. All of the familiar bets are offered, along with the "French bets" and the splits and “dragon” bets often seen in IGT's tables. All of these bets pay out at the same rate as in standard roulette games.

But a closer inspection reveals one very big difference: there's a big yellow pocket on the wheel. That corresponds to the bonus bet, which is positioned above the zeroes on the table layout. This special bet is what makes this game so unique, as it brings another element to the table: the chance to hit a jackpot style win on every spin.

The initial payouts on this bet are modest: you'll get 12-1 on a straight bet for that spot, 6-1 if you play a split bet between this spot and a zero, and 4-1 for a bet split between the bet and both zeroes. That is somewhat compensated for by the fact that the yellow pocket is 50% larger than all the rest, making the bonus easier to hit; however, this initial payout is still much lower than what you would get by betting on any other number or combination.

Special Round Offers Twice the Chances to Win

The biggest benefit to activating the bonus comes after the initial payout. That's when the wheel will expand to form two wheels. Both will spin, and the ball will fall into a pocket that will line up with results on each ring of numbers. These will be the winning numbers for the special feature.

Any bets that you made on in your normal spin will now pay out based on the numbers that have just been selected. In addition, there are special payouts if the yellow spot is hit again. Should one wheel land on yellow, the bet now pays out at 120-1, and in the unlikely event that both should land in the yellow, you'll win an incredible 1,200-1 payout.

The opportunity to win such a big prize on every spin is certainly exciting, but it's not the only way in which this feature helps you. The key to taking advantage of it is realizing that you can get free chances to win extra money on all of your other bets as well. That means that every time you hit the bonus, you're essentially getting two free spins – something few casino owners would be willing to give you in the brick-and-mortar world!

Player-Friendly Payouts Make for Excellent Game

In most cases, special versions of common gambling games are actually worse for the player, even if they seem more fun. There's an old adage that says that a casino wouldn't give players a bet unless they had some kind of an advantage, and that side bets and gimmicks are virtually always worse for gamblers than the main bets in a given game.

Thankfully, we're happy to say that Double Bonus Spin Roulette is an exception to this rule. While games with two zeroes are usually ones that should be avoided by players, this version actually comes in with a very low house edge of less than 2% when you play the bonus bet. This makes the game better than standard single-zero roulette; only such games that also use la partage or en prison rules offer even better chances for you to come out ahead in a session.

That makes this game something of a rarity: a more exciting, more fun version of a timeless game that also offers great odds, making it a great choice for casual and serious players alike. If you are a fan of roulette, and you are playing at an IGT casino, we strongly recommend giving this game a try.
