The Lost Treasure Slots
My, my. What have we here? It would appear to be a 5-reel slot built around a theme of ancient Egyptian mythology. What a turn up for the books!
At the risk of dropping spoilers, it would be safe to say that Cozy Games’ The Lost Treasure isn’t going to win any awards for originality. Whether the world likes it or not, the world is getting another slot stocked with scarab beetles, sphinxes and pyramids.
In fairness, the Egyptian genre may be vastly overpopulated, but there are worse offenders – here’s looking at you, fruit-based slots. Besides, Cozy Games’ effort isn’t too shabby. The graphics are clean, the colours are vivid and the animations are subtle but slick.
Roll for Riches
The action unfolds within a 5x3 layout, but one that features just 9 pay lines in all. Flickering torches adorn the perimeter of the screen, evoking images of an Indiana Jones-type explorer venturing deep into a tomb of the kings.
On a more prosaic note, the bottom of the screen is taken up by control settings, the same ones Cozy Games deploy on all their slots. The number of coins can be set between 1 and 3 and the number of active pay lines from 1 to 9. Then there’s the coin value, which can go from 0.01 to 1.00. With everything cranked up to the maximum settings, a single spin of the reels will cost you 27. The game has an estimated pay out, incidentally, of just under 95%.
To the right of the screen, you’ll find Bet Max, Auto Spin and Spin buttons. Click on Auto Spin and a pop-up menu will reveal a comprehensive range of options. You can set the number of auto spins at 10, 25, 50, 75 or 100. You can set an auto spin loss limit at 15, 20 or 50 x your bet, or enter a custom value of your choice. You can even set a single win limit for each auto spin session, with default settings of 20, 25 and 75x your bet.
If you like to feel in control, Cozy Games place a lot of power in the palm of your hand. The only other button you might need is the mute button, situated at the top right of the screen. Look to the top left, meanwhile, and you’ll see your current balance displayed.
Treasure You Can Measure
One little oddity it’s worth mentioning before we proceed to the reels themselves: the game is branded as The Lost Treasure, as clearly displayed on the Egyptian symbol-heavy logo at the top of the screen. Below the reels, however, you’ll notice a small line of text that reads Lost Treasure 2. Is this the original or the sequel? That’s the trouble with franchises: often the reboot is so similar to its predecessor, it’s hard to tell them apart.
Cozy Games have gone to town with the animations on The Lost Treasure, imbuing everything that’s gold with multiple sparkles that run around the edge of each icon. There’s a lot of gold in this game and hence a lot of sparkles. The playing symbols all comprise Egyptian treasure of some sort. These include a scorpion, a cobra and a scarab beetle. At the top of the pecking order, there’s a statue of Ra which is worth 250 for 5 symbols and a vase that’s worth 500. The highest value of symbol, the Eye of Horus, is worth 1,500 for 5.
All That Glitters Is Gold
The game’s wild symbol, the sphinx, will substitute for any of the regular symbols except scatter, helping you notch up wins on the reels. 5 wilds are worth 3,000. Scatter is played by a curious looking bird symbol with a golden ball perched upon its head. Like everything else in The Lost Treasure, it sparkles hard.
Scatter triggers the free spins which form The Lost Treasure’s feature game. Land 3 scatter symbols and you’ll be awarded 10 free spins and a multiplier of 4 for any wins you secure. Land 4 scatter symbols and you’ll receive 15 free spins with an 8x multiplier. Land 5 symbols and it’ll be 25 free spins and a multiplier of 12.
In execution, The Lost Treasure performs just like every other game from Cozy Games. The features are simple but effective, the sound is reasonable and the graphics are pretty good. There are better Egyptian themed slots out there, but there are also a lot worse.
