The Voice
Based on the hit TV show, The Voice is an instant-win game that’s exclusive to Sky Vegas and gives players the chance to land up to 15,000x their stake as the famous chairs turn around and light up the scoreboards. While dedicated fans of the show may be a little disappointed that there’s no Will I am, Sir Tom Jones, or Jessie J, gamblers who like to land big winnings will put that aside and simply enjoy the anticipation as 7 rounds of chair-turning, scoreboard-filling action play out in front of them.
Instant win games are popular with slot machine players, but each works a little differently and each has their own unique combination of styles, themes, payouts and features. What you won’t find are wild symbols or scatter awards, but some have bonus rounds, or progressive jackpots to claim. The Voice is a simpler game that doesn’t ask too much of players and all that’s needed is a few clicks on the big red button from the show. But that doesn’t mean it’s lacking excitement, as over the course of 7 clicks, you watch the 6 scoreboards light up towards those big prizes.
The Voice has been developed for Sky Vegas and like every other slot game, table game, cards and instant-win titles there, it’s independently certified for fair play and fully licensed by the UK Gambling Commission, ensuring that it has a high return to player percentage and gives punters a great chance of landing some mega wins.
Entering The Voice
The view on screen is instantly recognisable to anyone who has watched the TV show, with the logo sitting above a line of chairs, although instead of just 4 chairs, we now have 6. Behind each is a scoreboard, each in a different colour and with either 4, 5, or 6 horizontal bars on them, topped off with prize values.
Playing The Voice couldn’t be any easier if it tried, as you simply purchase a ticket and are then given 7 clicks on the red button at the bottom of the game screen. Each click turns around between 1 and 4 of the chairs, releasing either a single or double musical note. If it’s a single note, the scoreboard behind the turned chair will light up a single bar, starting from the bottom, while double notes light up 2 bars of the related board.
There’s a little bit of animation as the chairs vibrate, turn and release their notes, and of course, no music-based contest would be complete with a tune, so we have the theme playing in the background and some bits of music playing with each round, getting more and more dramatic when boards fill up.
Scoring wins
As the 7 rounds progress, each board starts to fill up with coloured light, and even players who have never seen the show will be watching keenly as they get closer to the end of the game and hopefully complete a whole scoreboard. It’s going to be easier to fill a lower-value board than a high-paying one, but from chair number 1 on the left, we see a 4-bar board which pays 1x the stake if it’s filled, another 4-bar board with 4x paid out when it fills up, then a 6-bar board that returns 250x, then a 5-bar one that’s worth 12x.
The next chair pays out the best prize, with anyone lucky enough to see all 6 bars lit up at the end of the round winning a massive 15,000x the triggering bet, and lastly, chair number 6 pays you 50x the bet amount.
As well as the musical notes filling the boards, there’s also the chance to land an instant-win prize in any round, although we found these are usually 1 or 2 times the stake, and rarely much above this amount. Instant wins are on top of anything gained by filling a board and are still a nice way to grab a few more payouts.
Staking a seat on The Voice
A simple plus or minus set of control buttons is used to set your bet levels, with the options ranging from just 0.50 to a high limit of 10.00 per round. Whatever the stake chosen, you get 7 clicks on the button to fill the boards and wins are always a multiple of the total stake, so at a 1.00 bet level, you can claim up to 15,000.00, or maybe even a little bit more if you also get an instant win during the round.
The only other option open to players is to activate the sound, and while many games are best played without a soundtrack, this is definitely one that fans of the show will want to listen to as well as watch.
Other Game-show Related Titles
Developers know that if they release an instant-win, or slot title based on a game show, it’s going to have a built-in fanbase, so you won’t be surprised to find that there are lots of other themed casino games available. Jeopardy, Family Fortunes, The Cube, Deal or No Deal, Wheel of Fortune and The X Factor have all been converted into slots, Bingo games and more.
Perhaps Wheel of Fortune is the most famous of the lot, and this uniquely designed slot from the Simbat games company, lets you collect spins on the reel when the right symbols line up across the 3 reels. Once the wheel spin is triggered, there’s guaranteed prize payouts of between 10x and 100x the triggering bet.
Although it’s not based on a real show, the Everybody’s Jackpot video slot from Playtech is another unique game. The 3D animated game show host and hostess oversee an 8 payline game filled with items such as watches, gold bars, piles of cash and other goodies that contestants of this fictional show can win. There’s a free spins bonus game, but the highlight is a progressive jackpot, 70% of which goes to the player who triggered it, 15% goes to other qualifying players online at the time, and 15% goes to qualifying players who were at this game in the preceding 24 hours.
Voicing our Opinion
We can certainly sing the praises for this game, with it’s potential for some massive rewards, the rising anticipation as scoreboards fill up, and the clever way that it’s turned a popular TV show into an online casino game.
While it may not have the multiple bonus features and extra rounds that slots players are used to, it shouldn’t be seen as competing with these types of games. The Voice works in a unique way and is a high-quality release in its own right.
The Voice is also mobile optimised, so you can have a quick round and perhaps claim some generous prizes from wherever there’s an internet, or phone network connection.
