Bon Appetit is a charming, non-progressive slot set in a bright restaurant populated by white-aproned chefs, waiters, waitresses and maîtres d’hôtel. It’s not lobster bisque under those gleaming cloches, though: it’s bricks of cash. If you manage to scoop the 10,000-coin jackpot, you’ll be ordering a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label and the most expensive dish on the menu. Tantalising and Fresh
Bon Appetit plays much like other slot games: there’s a wild symbol, a scatter and an enticing multiplier, all tropes of 5-reelers; but importantly, this game looks different. Aesthetics aren’t everything, of course, but if you’re planning on playing a title for hours on end, you certainly want it to be easy on the eye. Bon Appetit’s cartoonish figures and bright colours will certainly put a smile on your face.
The object of the game is simple – just match a minimum of two identical icons on a pay-line to trigger a win. The more icons you match, the more money you make. Some would say that the natural follow-on from that is ‘mo’ money, mo’ problems’ but suffice to say, not everyone agrees! The coin range in Bon Appetit stretches from 0.10 to 10, and you can stake a maximum of one coin per line.
Hungry for Success
As well as the aforementioned staff members, who stand either side of the reel grid bearing affable smiles and sparkling cloches, the game includes plenty of culinary-themed icons. They include a popcorn and coke icon (we must confess, we haven’t dined in many restaurants where popcorn is served), a cantaloupe, a couple of sizzling eggs in a skillet, waffles, a slice of pizza, a mug of tea, a set of cutlery tucked into a serviette, a couple of lemons sitting aside a glass jug, a pair of wine glasses (or is that brandy swilling in the crystal?) and an ice cream cone. There’s also a chef scatter and a waitress wild. The latter is able to substitute for all other symbols in the game except the scatter; perhaps your friendly waitress will lead you not to a table, but to a 10,000 jackpot? This is achieved by landing five consecutive ice cream symbols. Four ice creams leads to a bumper pay-out of 1,000 credits.
Incidentally, players who utilise the waitress wild in forming matching combinations can enjoy a 2x multiplier on every single win. Not bad when you consider the high-paying nature of many of the game’s icons.
The chef scatter does not function as a regular scatter. In most slot games, scatters lead to free spins – that’s not the case at this eatery. Don’t fret, though: the chef holds the key to something a whole lot more appetising than free spins – and that’s multipliers. Two scatters supplies 2x, three provides x4 and four engenders a whopping 16x multiplier. If you manage to hit five scatters, the multiplier is a ridiculous 32x. That’s certainly worth a toast!
Disappointingly, there is no bonus game in Bon Appetit. One supposes that the developer felt there was enough excitement to be derived from the base game, what with the multiplier scatter and multiplier wild. A randomly-activated free spins round, or some kind of middling bonus game, would have been nice, though.
Five Symbols Equals Five-Star Service
As is the case in virtually every slot game, five symbols is what you’re after; the more icons you match, the greater the pay-outs. Usually, though, the second and third highest-paying icons don’t come close to matching the best-paying. That’s not the case in Bon Appetit, as the grand prize for five wine glass symbols is 9,000, just a grand shy of the main jackpot. Five cutlery icons nets 8,000 while five cups of tea nets 7,000. The pay-outs continue in this fashion, with the lowest-paying being the popcorn icon: 1,000 for five-in-a-line.
Cheque, Please
Bon Appetit is certainly worth a go. While the lack of free spins or bonuses might rankle, especially as they available on other food slots suhs as American Diner, this oversight is mitigated by the presence of multipliers. The graphics are great, the gameplay is enjoyable and the pay-outs are very attractive indeed.
