Conga Beat

Conga Beat Slot Machine

If you march to the beat of a different drum, give Conga Beat a go. The 5-reel, non-progressive video slot has been designed by the esteemed NeoGames software platform and offers players the chance to form winning combinations on up to 20 paylines.

We say “different drum”, but in truth, fans of traditional casino slots will get to grips with Conga Beat in no time at all. That’s because the game pays respect to slot staples such as wilds, scatters and multipliers. There’s also an interesting bonus game to sink your teeth into.

Drumming Up Interest

Conga Beat, as the name suggests, is African-themed, aiming to follow classic slots in this genre like African Diamond, with many of the places on the reel grid occupied by tribal masks. The cartoonised graphics are pleasant to look at, and the reels themselves appear on a sort of thatch-roofed hut, in the foreground of an African savannah. The name of the game, meanwhile, appears in bold lettering at the top.

In all other respects, Conga Beat looks and feels like a traditional 5-reeler. Along the bottom of the screen you’ll find controls such as Spin and Max Bet. You can also find the pay-table here, as well as controls to regulate how many paylines you wish to bet on: you can beat on one, two, three, all the way up to 20.

The grand prize in the game, incidentally, is x10,000. Players can stake coins that range in value from 0.1 to 10, and a maximum of one coin is permissible per pay-line. In total, then, you can bet up to 200-per-spin. We certainly wouldn’t recommend doing this until you’ve got a measure of the game, though. All icons pay multipliers rather than traditional pay-table sums.

What’s Behind the Masks?

Given the vastness of the African continent, it’s a bit of a shame that the game developers have included bog-standard playing card symbols in Conga Beat. OK, the playing card icons have been graffitied with tribal-style symbols and colours, but it would’ve been nice to see some more creativity at work. How about a Barbary lion, king of the plain?

The playing card icons are the least valuable in the game. That said, you can still snare x15 for five aces in a line. It’s x10 for five kings, x5 for five queens and x4 for five jacks.

You’ll fare better if you match up some tribal masks. There are five masks in total, each with a different design and colour scheme. There’s a purple mask, an orange mask, a green mask, a silver mask and a diamond-shaped blue mask. Not all masks are made equal, though. The circular purple mask pays x30 for five and x20 for four, but the square-shaped orange face pays x50 for five and x20 for four. The green one is next: x100 for five and x50 for four. Then it’s the silver mask, which pays a gargantuan x100 for five in a line. The diamond mask is the best, though – x10,000 for five and x500 for four. Even if you reveal three, you’re looking at a bumper x100 pay-out.

The game includes a wild and a scatter. The scatter is the icon of cave drawings. If scatters appear anywhere on the reels, they multiply the total bets – by x5 for three, x20 for four and x500 for five.

The wild icon, meanwhile, is the African baby. It replaces all symbols in the game except the scatter and bonus, and can multiply randomly the value of the winning line. The available multipliers are x2, x5 and x10.

Conga Beat Bonus

The bonus icon is hard to miss – it’s a big bonus sign, after all. Three or more bonus symbols start the bonus round, which guarantees players at least a modest win. The bonus game isn’t very sophisticated; it basically involves clicking on musical instrument symbols to reveal hidden multipliers. The round ends when you select an icon with a Stop sign. Your single pay-line bet will then be multiplied by the sum of the multipliers you uncovered during the bonus. For example, if you revealed x5 and x10, your total bet will be multiplied by a total of 15.

Come on and Do the Conga

Conga Beat might be a simple game, but it’s no worse for that fact. While the playing card icons are always a bit of a bugbear with players, nonetheless the game strives to keep users entertained by including multipliers and a bonus round.
