Mobile sports betting launches

FanDuel and DraftKings recently launched online sports betting in the state of West Virginia. FanDuel, which already offers a land-based sportsbook at The Greenbrier, launched online in conjunction with the brand on Monday. DraftKings launched just two days later, in partnership with the Mountaineer Casino.

The double launch marks the first time the state has had access to mobile/online wagering since March, when Delaware North saw their online operations being shut down due to a third-party vendor dispute.

FanDuel launch

FanDuel launched first, deciding to opt for proprietary technology. The iOS and Android app of the company uses the IGT PlaySports platform, similar to their offering in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The app is unique in West Virginia, as FanDuel created their own account and wallet technology in-house.

The new sportsbook is now connected to the company’s fantasy sports app. Customers in West Virginia can use winnings from the sportsbook and fantasy sports contests interchangeably.

DraftKings mobile app

DraftKings worked on their app for months before launching this week. Players can now download the application for sports betting from the Google Play Store for Android devices, or from the App Store for iOS phones.

West Virginia marks the second state to see DraftKings launch a mobile sports betting application. The operator first started in New Jersey in August of last year.

DraftKings Chief Revenue Officer and Co-Founder Matt Kalish said: “We are thrilled to continue our DraftKings Sportsbook expansion by getting our product into the hands of West Virginians. We look forward to serving our fans with the top-rated DraftKings Sportsbook app.”

Ready for football

The launch of FanDuel and DraftKings arrives just in time for the new football season. The NCAA football has already kicked off, providing players with an option to wager on their favorite college teams.

The NFL season begins on September 5, when the Chicago Bears host the Green Bay Packers. Both brands will be offering NCAA and NFL betting, among several other sports betting options.
