Retail sportsbook on the way
BetMGM has launched a sports betting app in Washington, D.C. through its partnership agreement with MLB’s Washington Nationals. This will be the sole mobile sportsbook that will be accessible by people in Nationals Park. BetMGM announced the news on Thursday via Twitter:
BetMGM already has an exclusive multi-year partnership deal in place with the Nationals. In addition to the new mobile app, BetMGM will be opening a retail sportsbook connected to Nationals Park later this year.
In order to use the new BetMGM app, users need to be within a two-block radius of Nationals Park because of the legal restrictions in place on the Washington, D.C. sports betting sector.
Enhancing the fan experience
BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt referenced the great partnership that the operator has with the Washington Nationals. Speaking about the launch, he also said: “Launching in Washington, D.C. at Nationals Park sets the stage for our plans to expand BetMGM within the region, as we’ve already seen great success in Virginia.”
enable our fans to engage with the game in new and exciting ways”
Lerner Sports chief operating officer Alan Gottlieb spoke about the launch of the new BetMGM sportsbook, saying: “The BetMGM mobile app will enable our fans to engage with the game in new and exciting ways.”
The sportsbook will also integrate with MGM Resorts’ M life Rewards program, allowing people to earn loyalty points and exchange them for experiences at MGM Resorts properties across the country.
Constant expansion
BetMGM is a joint venture between MGM Resorts International and Entain Plc. It has been rapidly expanding its presence in the burgeoning US sports betting market, already with sportsbooks live in ten states. It also has online casinos and online poker platforms in certain areas.
One of its key growth strategies is partnering with major sports teams, athletes, and organizations like the Washington Nationals. Some of the other notable BetMGM partners include the Professional Fighters League, NHL, NBA, Philadelphia 76ers, Wayne Gretzky, and the Baltimore Ravens.
When it opens its retail sportsbook at Nationals Park, it will be the first retail sportsbook the operator has at a professional sports stadium. The William Hill Sportsbook opened at the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals home venue, the Capital One Arena, in May. This was the first-ever permanent retail sportsbook to open in a professional sports stadium in the US.
