Not content with cracking sportsbooks over the head for advertising misdemeanors, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has now ordered an independent probe into alleged “HR irregularities” involving ex-Ohio state lottery director, Pat McDonald.

Ohio state house news site Gongwer took to Twitter on Thursday to share that McDonald was retiring for medical reasons:

Later that day, however, DeWine’s spokesman Dan Tierney confirmed the investigation, led by an outside firm.

While nixing reports that state troopers escorted McDonald from his office, Tierney revealed that he was in fact escorted by DeWine’s staff — namely his Chief of Staff Stephanie McCloud and Chief Counsel Matthew Donahue.

DeWine has an eagle-eye out for rule-breakers

According to media reports, Tierney would not comment further, nor would he confirm if DeWine ordered McDonald’s resignation. While one of the chief movers in getting sports betting across the line in Ohio, DeWine has an eagle-eye out for rule-breakers, as DraftKings and others can attest.
