Calvin Ridley has warned his fellow NFL players about violating the league’s gambling policy. The Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver missed all of last season after receiving a ban for gambling on NFL games. With more players in recent weeks also falling foul of league betting rules, Ridley doesn’t want anyone to assume that they’ll get away with breaches.

The 28-year-old didn’t realize the seriousness of the matter upon first learning about the league’s investigation. He said he told the truth to investigators, thinking he might get some slack for unknowingly violating the gambling policy. This was ultimately not the case as he was hit was an indefinite ban, before gaining reinstatement in March.
Ridley bet on NFL games while taking a break from the sport for mental health reasons. Players receive indefinite bans if they are found to have bet on NFL games. Those who wager on other sports while at a team facility or traveling with their organization typically receive six-game suspensions.
