The Queen Baton Rouge is set to open on August 24, making it the city’s first-ever land-based casino. Riverboat casinos have been legal for many years in Louisiana, with commercial land-based facilities only permitted outside of New Orleans in recent years.

Work on the project began in August 2021

The Queen Baton Rouge is located on the same site as the former Hollywood Casino. Work on the project began in August 2021, with high river water levels and escalating construction costs leading to numerous delays. The new complex will be over 100,000 square feet in size and its 18 table games and 750+ slot machines will move from the riverboat onto land.

A DraftKings sportsbook will also take wagers at the property, while five entertainment venues and restaurants will offer something for visitors when they are not gambling.

The new facility will create about 100 new jobs. Speaking about the upcoming opening, The Queen Casino & Entertainment CEO and President Terry Downey said: “The Queen Baton Rouge ushers in a new era not just for this historic property, but for gaming and entertainment throughout the region.”
