When sports betting goes live in Kentucky in a month, BetMGM will be one of the players in the market. On Monday, the company announced a partnership with Revolutionary Racing Kentucky (RRKY) that will allow BetMGM to operate both retail and online sportsbooks in the Bluegrass State.

Legalized at the end of March, retail sports betting will launch on September 7, a key date, as it marks opening day for the NFL season. Online wagering is slated to come three weeks later. BetMGM said its online sportsbook will be ready to go from day one.
Its 5,200 square-foot retail sportsbook at RRKY’s Sandy’s Racing & Gaming in Ashland is also expected to open this fall. Shortly thereafter, construction will begin on the state’s first quarter horse racetrack and equestrian center on a 182-acre plot of land next to Sandy’s. The first races are expected to run in 2025.
All nine of Kentucky’s horse racetracks are eligible for both retail and online sports betting licenses, as is the Kentucky Speedway. Each venue can partner with up to three internet operators, so there could be as many as 30 sports betting skins in the state.
