US commercial gaming revenue continues to rise, with the $16.07bn generated between April and June setting an all-time record for the two-month period. Year-on-year growth of 8.1% resulted in the second-highest-ever grossing quarter and the tenth consecutive quarter of annual growth.

governments benefitted from nearly $7.3bn in direct tax

According to the American Gaming Association (AGA), it’s also been a record-breaking first half of the year, with revenue reaching $32.7bn, making it almost 12% greater than the same period in 2022. Local and state governments benefitted from nearly $7.3bn in direct tax during the first six months of 2023.

Land-based properties still account for more than three-quarters of the total revenue figure and their results remain steady over time. A 43% year-on-year rise in online gambling performance was the main reason for the commercial sector’s strong start to the year.

AGA CEO and President Bill Miller remarked that the sector is “on track for an unprecedented third consecutive year of record revenue.” He noted that the post-pandemic recovery was not down to luck, adding that he thinks communities will continue to benefit from the success.
