Wizards team total leads to bad beat
One unlucky sports bettor submitted a late bid for “bad beat of the year” during the Washington Wizards game against the Toronto Raptors.
Mark Zinno, a betting analyst and radio personality, shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he took the Wizards team total over 109.5 points.
With 7:25 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Wizards had already scored 106 points. That meant they were on pace to score 125 points and easily cash the over before the final buzzer sounded.
Unfortunately for Zinno and other Wizards bettors, that did not happen. The Wiz miraculously only managed to score one point for the rest of the game and gave up a 16-point lead to lose 111-107, dropping them to 2-8 on the year.
Washington went 0-10 from the field and committed five turnovers during the final 7:25. The team’s lone point came with 5:47 remaining when Kyle Kuzma split a pair of free throws.
Kuzma finished as the high man with 34 points but was outdone by Toronto’s Pascal Siakam, who notched 39 to go with 11 rebounds and seven assists.
According to ESPN’s win probability tracker, the Wizards had a 99% chance to finish on top at the 7:25 mark of the fourth quarter. Even with the score tied at 107 with 51.1 seconds remaining, they still had a 53.1% chance to win the game.
Zinno called the beat “The most inexplicable thing in sports betting EVER!”
