As is its style, Las Vegas always goes all in on the celebrations for New Year, and 2023 proved no exception with fireworks and light shows aplenty. The celebrations did have one difference to previous years however, due to the use of The Sphere. The $2.3bn spherical concert venue – which lit up for the first time in 2023 – featured heavily in the New Years celebrations.

The Sphere counted down to mignight with huge numbers before lighting up in a very special way. The official X Sphere page shared a video of the bespoke display, a geometric composition called Dawn, Noon, and Night created by designer Andy Gilmore:

The Sphere has already hosted U2 for their residency, U2: UV Achtung Baby Live. It’s a show that Rolling Stone described as “a quantum leap forward for concerts,” owing to the mind-bending light display that featured on the 16k internal wraparound screen.

Meanwhile, advertising on the outside of The Sphere costs a reported $450,000 per day or $650,000 per week. Microsoft’s Xbox and the NBA both paid for slots last year.
