Authorities in Indonesia are calling on the Elon Musk-owned X to help battle gambling ads. The country’s Communications and Information Ministry wants a more streamlined process for spotting any gambling-related content and removing it automatically.
In the current system, the ministry has to manually issue a take-down notice, which is time-consuming. It called on X to create a tool that will automate everything.

The ministry removed 810,785 online gambling-related ads last year across numerous online channels, almost four times the 2022 total. It already warned X in January about the issue and has worked with Meta regarding similar struggles.
Online gambling is currently illegal in Indonesia; people caught operating platforms face up to ten years in prison and significant financial penalties.
