Boxing legend Mike Tyson is taking to the ring once more. The 57-year-old will take on controversial content creator turned boxer Jake Paul in a boxing match on July 20, streamed live on Netflix from the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
Tyson announced the news on Thursday:
While “Iron Mike” might be a former heavyweight world champion, he is fighting someone 30 years his junior in Jake Paul. Paul has a record of 9-1 after making his professional debut, most recently defeating Ryan Bourland in a first-round knockout. His one loss came at the hands of Tyson Fury’s brother Tommy Fury.
Sportsbooks have had a difficult time calling the July 20 bout considering the difference in age and experience of the two fighters. Nevertheless, they have now priced Jake Paul as the favorite at odds of -500. Meanwhile, a bet on Tyson as the outsider will secure odds of +325.
Time to put Iron Mike to sleep.”
Commenting on his upcoming bout, Paul wasn’t short of praise for his opponent. “I have a chance to prove myself against the greatest heavyweight champion of the world, the baddest man on the planet, and the most dangerous boxer of all time,” he said, adding: “Time to put Iron Mike to sleep.”
Meanwhile, Tyson commended Paul for his progress since turning to boxing. “He’s grown significantly as a boxer over the years,” Tyson said. “I started him on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones and now I plan to finish him.” Tyson drew with Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition bout in 2020.
