Scott Seiver said his goals for the 2024 World Series of Poker were to win Player of the Year and solidify his case for the Poker Hall of Fame and after this weekend, he could be well on his way to both. On Sunday night, Seiver became the first player to win two gold bracelets this summer, emerging victorious in Event #40: $1,500 Razz.

Of his lofty aspirations, Seiver said in his post-game interview: “It’s this weird feeling where you set a goal that should be close to impossible and then take the steps to do it.”

some of the all-time greats adding to their resumes

The World Series of Poker is always filled with relatively unknown players winning their first career bracelets and that hasn’t necessarily changed, but so far, one of the highlights of the 2024 WSOP has been some of the all-time greats adding to their resumes.

In the span of a few days earlier this month, John Hennigan won his seventh gold bracelet, Seiver won his fifth (and now sixth), and Robert Mizrachi captured his fifth. Then Nick Schulman won his fifth last week and Phil Ivey won his 11th to move into sole possession of second place on the all-time bracelet list.

“It’s not that there’s like an old-school resurgence,” said Seiver, who is still just 39 years old and will be eligible for the Poker Hall of Fame next year. “It’s just that the best players are winning.”

Seiver now has a commanding lead in the 2024 WSOP Player of the Year race, with 2566.73 points. In addition to his two bracelet wins, he has five other cashes. In second and third on the leaderboard are Schulman and Ivey, with 1,890.12 and 1,755.26 points, respectively.
