The pain is not yet over for disgraced former NBA player Jontay Porter following his lifetime ban from the sport. The 24-year-old is now facing criminal charges for his role in the match-fixing scandal that saw him intentionally exit games early so he wouldn’t hit certain player prop bet targets.

Federal prosecutors filed a criminal information sheet in Brooklyn on Tuesday. While it doesn’t outline any specific charges or show a court date, this type of document is a “written accusation made by a public prosecutor, without the intervention of a grand jury.”

authorities already charged four men in connection with the case

The authorities already charged four men in connection with the case for conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Investigators claim that these men convinced Porter to leave two games early when playing for the Toronto Raptors in January and March after he racked up significant gambling debts.

The men were on track to win more than $1m betting on the second game in question before a sportsbook operator reported the suspicious betting activity, froze the payout, and reported it to the authorities. One of the suspects was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport trying to board a flight to Australia.

It is not just the US authorities that have Porter in their sights, either. The Ontario Provincial Police launched its own criminal investigation last month.
