The odds of Donald Trump winning the 2024 US Presidential election shortened significantly after he survived an assassination attempt on Saturday. The 78-year-old was speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania when Thomas Matthew Crooks shot at him. While Trump only suffered a wound to his ear, one person was left dead and another two people were critically injured following the incident.

now giving him a 73% chance of victory (-275) versus 65% (-188) before the rally

The wave of support for Trump following the incident led to sportsbooks slashing the odds of a November win, with William Hill now giving him a 73% chance of victory (-275) versus 65% (-188) before the rally. Democrat hopeful Joe Biden is now widely available at odds of +500 to win the election, a 17% chance of victory. Speculation is rife that the Democratic Party is looking to replace him with another candidate.

The current President’s popularity was slipping even before the failed assassination attempt, with people questioning his ability to do the job, especially after a shaky debate performance last month. Some potential replacements include current Vice President Kamala Harris, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and former first lady Michelle Obama.

Americans will take to the polls on November 5 to decide on their next president.
