Police in Massachusetts apprehended a man who tried to steal $13,000 worth of casino chips from a table game at Encore Boston Harbor. Gary Hunt is looking at two counts of larceny and as the sum in question is greater than $1,200, it could be considered felony larceny in Massachusetts rather than a misdemeanor charge.

Security staff at the property informed the State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit that an individual took a large number of chips from one of the tables on Tuesday night and fled the property through an emergency exit. The officers heard from patrons that the 35-year-old stood up from the table numerous times to use his phone before he tried distracting everyone by claiming that another person had a big win. He then took 13 $1,000 chips from the dealer tray.

The Everett Police K-9 unit helped track down Hunt in a nearby parking lot where officers arrested him and took him into custody. They found numerous casino chips on him and he had dropped a few while fleeing.
