With nearly $30m in live poker tournament winnings in his career, Seth Davies has earned his share of gigantic paydays. None, though, were as big as the prize he claimed on Sunday, when he won the Super High Roller Bowl IX for $3.2m.

The tournament field was only 24 entries, but that is understandable with a buy-in of $300,000. In the end, it came down to Davies and Spain’s Juan Pardo, with Davies holding a 4.26 million to 2.94 million-chip lead. And in just two hands, it was all over.

that river was even better than the turn

On the second hand of heads-up action, Davies raised pre-flop with 8-7 and Pardo called with 4-3. They checked the flop of 5-K-9, bringing on the perfect 6 on the turn for Davies. The nut straight in hand against Pardo’s straight draw, Davies happily called an aggressive bluff to bring on the river. And that river was even better than the turn, as a Deuce gave Pardo his straight, making him all the more confident.

Pardo bet strong, only to see Davies move all-in over the top. Pardo called and that was that: straight over straight, giving Seth Davies the Super High Roller Bowl title.

With the victory, Davies has moved up to 13th place on the PokerGO Tour leaderboard. Jeremy Ausmus, who finished third in the tournament, jumped into the top spot.
