When US Vice President Kamala Harris replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic Nominee for November’s Presidential Election, she had an uphill battle ahead of her. Republican hopeful Donald Trump had a 58% chance of winning the election, according to sportsbooks.
Harris now has a 51.8% chance of winning the election, gaining 4.8 points
After a successful campaign, those odds have shifted firmly in Harris’ favor however, and a dominant performance in a TV debate this week has seen her leap ahead of her opponent. According to Election Betting Odds tracker, Harris now has a 51.8% chance of winning the election, gaining 4.8 points in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, Trump has a 47% chance after losing 4 points.
The debate took place on Tuesday night on ABC News, and many have praised Harris’ performance while criticizing that of her opponent. “Kamala Harris baited Donald Trump for nearly all of the 1 hour and 45 minutes […] and Trump took every bit of it,” wrote CNN Politics.
In one notable moment, Harris said military leaders referred to Trump as a “disgrace” and claimed world leaders were laughing at him. She also claimed that Trump was fired by 81 million people when they chose Joe Biden to be President in 2020, and that he was having a difficult time accepting it.
Followers of Trump have claimed that the debate hosts were not fair in their treatment of both candidates, fact-checking Trump while allowing Harris to make unsubstantiated claims. Elon Musk voiced such an opinion.
Either way, the contest is certainly heating up ahead of the election on November 5.
