Missourians approved legal sports betting in November by fewer than 3,000 votes and officials have started the journey of drafting the sector’s rules and regulations.

The legal deadline for their rollout is December 1, 2025, Missouri Gaming Commission (MGC) Executive Director Michael Leara revealed to Sports Betting Dime this week that the launch date could be early summer as they are making good progress.

study existing sports betting markets across the country

A key reason for the success to date is the ability of Missouri lawmakers to study existing sports betting markets across the country, which provide a good initial framework.

The rules could be on incoming Governor Mike Kehoe’s desk by the end of January, with the Missouri Attorney General’s Office also needing to greenlight them. If everything goes smoothly, the MGC can start the license selection process in the middle of February. Twenty-one online sportsbook licenses and 19 retail permits will be up for grabs.
