Imagine a scene of carnage: dozens of roosters found dead amidst a large wooden arena and two sets of stadium seating for spectators. Thus far, two people have been detained for the incident in the Lodi area of California over the weekend.

The incident escalated to an investigation when San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office authorities passed by the property and saw five dead roosters among several other live roosters inside boxes.

The officers’ initial observations proved to only foreshadow how bad the scene truly was. The officers walked around the property and found 30 more dead roosters, with 65 more caged live roosters. Other evidence of rooster fighting included fighting gaffs, spurs, leashes, and other materials.

Deputies said that the two suspects detained at the scene are identified as Emanuel Garcia and Morales Prisciliano, who have been charged with animal cruelty and possession of game cocks for fighting.
