An unnamed Australian woman has succeeded in overturning her exclusion from two casinos due to her seven-figure inheritance. The Treasury Brisbane and Star Gold Coast properties banned her in February 2023 as she was gambling away over 50% of her income and was at the casinos almost every day of the week.
She contested that she was gambling socially and could afford the expenditure as she inherited real estate worth up to AU$3.6m (US$2.2m). Star Gold Coast had determined her annual income to be AU$51,000 (US$31,363) and that her real estate assets weren’t liquid. It also pointed out instances when the woman cried at the casinos while speaking with workers.
she’s still in a healthy overall financial position
Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal member Michael Howe ruled last month, however, that while the woman’s gambling seemed excessive, she did not fit the criteria for a ban as she’s still in a healthy overall financial position.
