Jack Fincham, the winner of Love Island 2018, has revealed that he spent £1m ($1.2m) on gambling, alcohol, and drugs before trying to take his own life. The 33-year-old explained how fame led to this level of destruction and caused him to spiral out of control.
in one day of gambling, he lost £40,000 ($49,533) online
In an interview with The Sun, he described how, in one day of gambling, he lost £40,000 ($49,533) online, with blackjack being his most regular game of choice. He was even sentenced to six weeks in prison last month after his dog, an Italian mastiff, attacked people on two occasions. Fincham is struggling financially and says he’ll need to pay the £3,860 ($4,780) fine in installments as a result.
He went to rehab in 2020 for his Xanax addiction following a serious incident when he went into psychosis due to the withdrawals. Police officers detained him to protect himself and others while he was in this state.
Fincham said that he would sometimes take ten Xanax pills a day and would spend as much as £600 ($743) buying cocaine on nights out. It was at his lowest point last year that he considered harming himself when he was in a hotel room and felt that his life wasn’t salvageable.
