The Philadelphia Eagles beat the odds Sunday night when they defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX. Jalen Hurts led his team to the promised land, throwing two touchdowns and passing for 221 yards.
Philadelphia went wild celebrating after ending the Chiefs’ quest for a historic third consecutive Super Bowl win. The sportsbooks were also happy after many popular prop bets failed to hit for bettors.
Eagles running back Saquon Barkley didn’t get near the target of 110.5 rushing yards for the game and he also failed to score a touchdown, going under for most of his prop markets. The same went for Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who didn’t score and only had 39 receiving yards.
a Barkley touchdown was the most popular leg of same-game parlays
Caesars Sportsbook’s head of football Joey Feazel told the Las Vegas Review-Journal a Barkley touchdown was the most popular leg of same-game parlays. ESPN Bet took more bets on the 28-year-old Eagles running back than Chiefs duo Mahomes and Kelce combined.
Superbook told the Review-Journal that 65% of its total handle for the Super Bowl came through prop bets.
The Eagles were also 1.5-point underdogs for the game, so all those favorite bettors lost out. Sportsbooks were happy that Patrick Mahomes threw a touchdown and that the Chiefs got a two-point conversion in the closing minutes, otherwise, it would have been a unique final score for the Super Bowl, and many bettors backed the +2000 market for such a “Scorigami” happening.
