A man in France is pleading with two thieves to give him his wallet back after they stole it and bought a winning lottery ticket with his credit card. They remain at large and they haven’t yet cashed in the ticket, as they no doubt think the authorities will be waiting for them if they do. The victim said he will drop the charges if they contact him, saying that without the theft, neither party would have won the six-figure sum.

The strange incident happened earlier this month in Toulouse. The victim left his backpack containing his wallet in his car and someone broke in and stole it. The bank informed him that someone had already used the card when he tried to block any transactions.

The store vendor explained that two homeless men used the card to buy a lottery ticket, which they scratched off in the store and won €500,000 ($525,225). The victim’s legal counsel, Pierre Debuisson, described the men as so ecstatic that they “forgot their cigarettes and their belongings and walked out like crazy people.”

The lawyer warned the two men that the ticket will expire and they won’t get anything, although the authorities might try to seize the funds because they were illegally obtained.
