With their decisive SuperBowl win, the Chiefs have inspired sports fans to place wagers on their continued success. You’d think that means Missouri voters would have cause for celebration, but despite Missouri approving the legalization of sports betting in November, the Missouri Gaming Commission confirmed the Missouri Secretary of State’s office has rejected emergency licensing rules.
our timeline is being pushed back months”
The Missouri Gaming Commission stated: “In the absence of emergency rules, our timeline is being pushed back months. The Commission will proceed with our proposed licensing rules that were filed at the same time and will become effective August 30, 2025. In the meantime, Commission staff will continue working to ensure we meet the constitutionally required start date of sports wagering not later than December 1, 2025.”
The ongoing battle for sports betting legalization means that Commissioner Jan Zimmerman will not be able to realize their dream of getting sports betting active in the summer of 2025.
The bills have in part been killed due to the ongoing efforts of Sec. of State Denny Hoskins, whose 2022 filibuster as a state senator did nothing short of killing any proposed gambling bills.
The emergency rules rejected by Hoskins are listed in the linked document.
