Leading offshore gambling site Bovada is in the firing line for not yet paying out a $87,000 bet to one of its VIP players. Todd Witteles of Poker Fraud Alert revealed how the wager related to the US government banning TikTok sometime in 2025, which it duly did on January 18:

Witteles explained how the bet remains pending until the end of 2025, with Bovada saying that the temporary 13-hour TikTok ban last month “doesn’t count.”

The forum post provides screenshots and a detailed walkthrough of the matter. It explains how Joe Biden officially banned the social media platform, with this restriction then put into US law. President Trump signed an executive order to provide a 75-day buffer before enforcement of the ban.

The user placed $24,882 on the +250 bet on January 15, with the profit for a successful outcome being $62,206. Bovada didn’t explain the criteria necessary for the bet to be a winner.

The bettor’s VIP host said, “At this time, the decision remains as is, and the bet will remain unsettled.” As a gesture, she credited his account with points worth about $250. In a follow-up email, the account host reiterated that the bet would remain unsettled “until we have received official communication from our provider.”

Todd Witteles also noted how many other Bovada customers likely bet on the same TikTok ban market, and presumably, their bets remain pending.
