The Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) disciplinary committee has banned Prakash Jiwa for eight years after it determined that he fixed four games. The 54-year-old denied the claims that he intentionally played poorly in the matches in 2023, although he pleaded guilty to betting charges.

The suspension means that Jiwa can’t play in any DRA tournaments or have any other type of involvement until November 2031. He is also responsible for the hearing’s £17,741 ($22,932) costs.

The matches in question were part of the Modus Super Series, in which he lost to Owen Bates, Adam Hunt, Peter Hudson, and Willie Borland, none of whom are suspected of involvement.

The illegal activity first came to light after the International Betting Integrity Association sent an alert to the DRA. Two people close to the player placed wagers on the Betfair Exchange for a total profit of £5,834 ($7,541).

A report from former darts professionals analyzed Jiwa’s play in the matches and said that the especially poor finish was “extremely worrying,” as the darts he threw landed more than an inch from their intended target.

The authorities accessed a WhatsApp conversation in which the bettors effectively admitted to their match-fixing scheme.
