A new bill from Florida Republicans would prevent people working for the state’s gambling regulator from switching sides and going to work with an operator in the industry for two years.

This happened with Louis Trombetta, who became the Executive Director of the newly-formed Gaming Control Commission in March 2022 before he started working for FanDuel as Director of Government Relations a month after resigning in December 2024.

Some people questioned why Trombetta sent cease and desist letters to daily fantasy sports (DFS) operators BetRivers, Underdog, and PrizePicks, but didn’t do so for FanDuel or DraftKings.

ban the state’s regulator from working for a daily fantasy sports (DFS) operator for two years

House Bill 1467 would explicitly ban the state’s regulator from working for a daily fantasy sports (DFS) operator for two years after departing their role.

Another aspect of the proposed legislation is to formally regulate DFS. John Snyder is one of the lawmakers behind this bill, and he explained how it’s important that a regulator can make significant decisions impacting the industry before having to “sit on the bench for a little bit” before going to work for an operator.

FanDuel issued a statement regarding the bill, highlighting how the Florida Gaming Commission doesn’t regulate the operator as DFS is categorized in the state as a game of skill rather than a game of chance.
