Sports Illustrated is launching a sports predictions platform in collaboration with media predictions model Galactic. The popular media company released a press release on Wednesday outlining details of SI Predict, which is targeting both casual and die-hard fans.

plan is to go live some time in the coming three months

It will offer real-time predictions and allow people to gain insights into public sentiment while trading “on the outcomes of trends and themes around major global sporting events.” The plan is to go live some time in the coming three months.

Talking about SI Predict, Galactic CEO Stuart Stott believes the new platform will move watching sports from “passive viewership to an active, influential forum.”

This is not Sports Illustrated’s first foray into sports gambling. In 2021, it entered a 20-year licensing agreement with 888 Holdings (now Evoke Plc) to launch US sportsbooks.

These platforms didn’t generate much success, only capturing a market share of about 0.2%. 888 exited the agreement in March 2024 and paid $50m to do so. Sports Illustrated Sportsbook remains up and running in Colorado, Virginia, and Michigan, although it is likely this will not be the case for much longer.
