Popular gaming supplier Light & Wonder has had some trouble as a result of a legal complaint filed by its competitor. Aristocrat filed a complaint against Light & Wonder on March 14 claiming that one of the company’s games bore similarities to its own.

Light & Wonder initially withdrew its Dragon Train slot as a result of that initial complaint, since this was the only game mentioned. However, Aristocrat has since amended that litigation to include its Jewel of Dragon slot. This has forced Light & Wonder to withdraw this game too.

a small game in relation to the universe of games we’ve created.”

The gaming supplier, formerly known as Scientific Games, offered its customers replacements for the game. Company CEO Matt Wilson said that it had only deployed around 150 of these machines, so it represented less than 1% of the firm’s installed slot base. He deemed it “a small game in relation to the universe of games we’ve created.”

In contrast, pulling Dragon Train from casinos cost the company a little more. The company had installed 2,200 of the games across North America.

Aristocrat highlighted several similarities between the two Light & Wonder games and its own. These included similarities in the Hold and Spin features, the jackpot displays, and the logos. Wilson, however, said that his company commissioned an independent review of its post-2021 games and “found no evidence of contagion” from competitor products.

Wilson did accept that Jewel of the Dragon bore “some similarities” to Aristocrat’s Dragon Link game.
