The gambling regulator in the Netherlands has issued a €1.6m ($1.8m) fine to Techno Offshore for illegally targeting people in the country with its online casinos, as it doesn’t have a license to do so. The main brands are Simple Casino and NoLimitBet.

As well as not having a license from the Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), Techno Offshore also did not check the age of people as they signed up for an account. In addition, many games incorporated turboplay and autoplay features, which the KSA prohibits, determining that they encourage excessive gambling. The firm also accepted cryptocurrency payments and charged fees on inactive accounts.
The online casino failed to adhere to previous warnings, so the KSA levied a €600,000 ($665,565) penalty and another €1.03m ($1.1m) based on 10% of the operator’s turnover.
Commenting on the fine, KSA Chairman Michel Groothuizen said that it will continue taking tough action against illegal casino game providers as they fail to properly protect players.
