The man who stabbed eight people on the Las Vegas Strip will serve two consecutive life sentences for his crimes. Yoni Barrios went on a spree in October 2022 that left two dead and six injured. Maris DiGiovanni and Brent Hallett died as a result of the attack that took place close to the Wynn Las Vegas.
Barrios had asked showgirl impersonators to take a picture with him holding a long knife. The 35-year-old proceeded to stab them as he thought they were laughing at him, before attacking passersby at random.
District Court Judge Tierra Jones handed down the sentence on Tuesday morning. During the hearing, Barrios apologized for his actions, saying that he’s sorry “from the bottom” of his heart.
subsequently entered a guilty plea in January to each of the 15 charges
While Barrios initially pleaded not guilty to the felony murder charge, he subsequently entered a guilty plea in January to each of the 15 charges, which removed the possibility of the death penalty.
The delay in the case was due to medical professionals finding him to be unfit in December 2022 to stand trial, resulting in a two-year stay in a hospital facility to treat his schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.
