A rise in the number of construction workers arrested over immigration issues could significantly impact the rate of building new residential properties in Las Vegas, sources claim.

Las Vegas Locally reported that ICE agents have been apprehending people on their job sites, which in turn has spread fear and led to many undocumented workers no longer showing up to the sites. Contractors are expressing concern that this will lead to labor shortages:

According to research from the Baker Institute, about 25% of the US construction labor force is foreign-born. A significant number of these individuals are undocumented, with construction companies often using brokers to hire these workers. The brokers often pay them low wages, don’t provide health insurance, and can force them to work in unsafe conditions.
