Three-time Olympic gold winner Gabby Thomas has publicly called out a bettor for abusing her at a track event in order for him to win a parlay.
Thomas took to social media with footage of the abuse, stating the X user going by the name of “Mr100k a day” stalked her at the Grand Slam Track meet in Philadelphia:
The Olympian, who has appeared on the cover of Vogue, said the man was “shouting personal insults” as she was engaging with her fans, which Thomas said “were mostly children.”
Footage of a man shouting at Thomas included insults such as “you’re a choke artist – you’re going down, Gabby.”
I made Gabby lose by heckling her. And it made my parlay win.”
Thomas finished the 200-meter sprint in third. Mr100k later boasted on X: “I made Gabby lose by heckling her. And it made my parlay win.” He also posted an online FanDuel Sportsbook betting slip revealing that a $1,000 two-leg parlay on sprints, including Melissa Jefferson-Wooden to win the women’s 200m, netted him $1,696.
Thomas, however, signed off her post stating: “anybody who enables him online is gross.”
Support for Thomas was strong. NBC Sports’ Kara Goucher, herself a retired Olympic medalist, thanked the sprinter for drawing attention to “this disgusting behavior.”
Thomas, who is a glamorous global superstar, draws social media attention wherever she goes. Like the heckler, and on an occasion when Thomas said a group of men stalked her “at several airports,” female athletes seem to be a growing target for invasive behavior.
