Bucksy Malone Online Slot Machine Review

Gangster themes from the 1920’s are a popular concept for online slot games. Many of the big software houses have one, with the Sopranos from PlayTech one of the best known. Saucify have created a real gem with Bucksy Malone (with a $ sign as the ‘s’). This has 2 different features, a great 3D effect with extra wilds being shot onto the reels as you play and opportunities to win big money too.

Saucify slots often have very distinctive looks to them, and this one is beautifully produced. The outside of the reels is art-deco, while the symbols themselves are very much old style gangster related. You’ll find a distinctive hat, knuckle dusters, spaghetti and meatballs – and a bunch of unsavoury characters ranging from the boss himself to the crazy assassin.

I would not normally recommend that you use the ‘gamble after win’ on slot games – as these usually only add volatility with no extra enjoyment. This game is different. In fact the gamble after win is a must see. You’ll be in the boss’s office, and your choices of suit or colour for a random card become part of the narrative. You’ll hear a gun load when you get it wrong, and find out that its ‘just business’.

This slot has a swinging soundtrack. The other sounds, and speed at which the game cycles through wins is way too slow. This is a minor issue really, and should not stop you enjoying the slot. Saucify need to address this across their entire range at some point soon.

Bonus games are a free spins feature with doubled or better wins, and a pick-em game where you choose barrels of moonshine whiskey.

Setup and Play for Bucksy Malone

You’ll find 40 lines on this slot (most Saucify games have only 25), you can select from these, and also choose the number of coins per line in addition to the coin size. 25c at 10 per line is the max, which gives $100 per spin for the full lines. You can spin all 40 lines for just 40c if you wish. Auto spin is available and allows you to play up to 100 spins at a time.

The cigar smoking boss is the symbol you’ll want to see. This is wild (substituting for everything except the scatters), and also has the biggest prize attached. You will win 6000 coins for 5; and 850 coins for 4 of these – in addition to other combinations made across other lines.

Of the regular symbols, the guy in the green jacket has the biggest pay-out – 1200 coins for 5. Next comes the lady in the spotlight, then the card, gun, whisky, dollars, razor, knuckle duster, hat and plate of spaghetti.

Free spins are triggered by the crazy assassin symbol. You’ll get 5 spins with a 2x multiplier for 3 of this symbol, 20 spins with a 4x multiplier for 20 and 100 spins with a 5x multiplier for 5. There is another scatter symbol, which is a guy holding banknotes. 3+ here takes you to the pick-em game where you choose barrels.

Random wilds come on around half of spins. A really good animation appears either side of the reels. This is the crazy assassin, who shoots one of the symbols at random – turning it into a wild.

Bucksy Malone – Bonus Games

The free spins round does not involve any major differences in behavior on the reels. In fact the crazy assassin will not shoot extra wilds while this is running. None the less, the multiplier of up to 5x makes a big difference, and you’ll see your wins accumulating as you spin. There is no retrigger for free spins while playing them in this particular game.

3 scatters takes you to a break out screen (this did have to load separately). Here you meet a character who tells you to choose 3 of 6 barrels of Moonshine from an old style truck. Depending on which you pick you get a comment like ‘would not give this to the regulars, save it for the late night crowd’. There were big differences in the coins that can be won from each barrel, which are all revealed after you make your selection.

Bucksy Malone – Conclusion

This is the best Saucify slot I have played so far. The attention to detail, animations on the reels and crazy assassin making random symbols wild all contribute to the game-play. The pick-em game is entertaining enough, at least for a while – though it is the free spins feature where the money could really start to roll in. My one gripe about this game is that the cycle through the wins (each with a sound and animation) are too slow. Other than that a really impressive game, and one which I can see myself returning to. Check it out for yourself soon!
