Diamond Dreams Deluxe Slots
What’s the one thing that all games and software production houses do when they enjoy success with game? That’s right, they make a sequel.
As is the case with movies, as is the case with television shows; continuation and adaptations is symptomatic of any successful entertainment media. And just so we are clear, in this context the term ‘success’ refers solely to popularity. After all, what more effective way is there of gauging success of a slot game than by assessing how popular it has been in terms of players numbers and the like.
One very successful video slot that was released earlier this year was Diamond Dreams. A neat little 3 reeled machine that harked back to an all but forgotten time in the evolution of our beloved pastime; Diamond Dreams was different from all of its contemporaries in all of the right ways.
Where other releases were flamboyant, Diamond Dreams was simple and stylish; where other games were complex, Diamond Dreams was as straight forward as you, or for that matter any player out there, could ever hope for!
Perhaps the most important and spellbinding feature of the original Diamond Dreams title was its old school feel. It had the air of a public house slot circa 1980 – and this is what this reviewer believes was so intrinsic in drawing such a large amount of interest towards it from all across the industry. Furthermore, it’s what we expect encouraged the team behind the title – the always brilliant SGS Universal – to put out a follow-up version so quickly. So without further ado, it brings us great pleasure to introduce you all to Diamond Dreams Deluxe.
First Impressions
First impression count for a lot. That’s something which is echoed all through our lives and in every aspect of our existence; related to both work and play. However, to trudge up another cliche’, looks can be deceiving.
Diamond Dreams Deluxe looks at first to be a 3-reeled game, much like its predecessor. Look closer, however, and you’ll notice that each reel position is in fact capable of spinning independently; rendering this instead a 9-reel video slot. From this alone, the suffix ‘Deluxe’ seems instantly justified!
The interesting features and functions of this game do not end here, no sir. The titles pay outs are gifted according to the number of matching icons present across all reels rather than the individual pay, or ‘win’ lines. A minimum of 4 symbols is required to trigger an award, aside from in the event that the Bingo icon is involved – in which case just 3 icons are needed.
When a player manages to bag a total of three or more matching symbols on their first spin, their positions are held fast and only the remaining un-lined reels are spun again – with any and all wins from the initial spin committed to the game’s memory and included in any combos from therein.
The Symbols
Pretty much the only symbol in the game, besides from the obvious ones which any player who has experienced the original title (not to mention those who are familiar with the old school symbols and icons in general), that you need to be fully aware of for any longer than an instant is the blue Diamond. Each Diamond which appears in a new position will be tacked onto the Diamond Bonus matrix in the upper right corner of the console. The second the matrix is fully populated, it will begin to flash – triggering the mystical bonus round which we have no doubt affords players a whole host of free spins and multipliers.
Go Deluxe
There’s absolutely no question whatsoever that players who enjoyed the original Diamond Dreams title should give this one a fair bash. That being said, however, there’s absolutely no need for an individual to have experience with the first in order to gain an upper-hand with the second.
The theme is simple and easily negotiated. The independently spinning reels are an extremely nice touch and there’s a good chance of coming out of a session on this title with a fair amount more money in your pockets than with which you entered – which is what we all like to see!
