Thor's Hammer Slots
Everything we tend to know about Thor comes from copious amounts of Marvel films we’ve watched, having stared longingly at Chris Hemsworth, either wanting to be with him or be him. But the story of Thor is one from Norse mythology, making it a much richer tapestry of elements than we often give it credit for.
If you’re intrigued to find out a little more, without having to do research, and removing yourself from Hollywood’s version, there’s always Thor’s Hammer from Bally Wulff, the software developer which now goes by the name of Gamomat.
The big gaming brand have created a 5-reels, 40 winlines matrix decorated with attractive, albeit it old looking, graphics. From the off, you can tell that this is a dated real cash slot, clearly not a release from the last year or so, but that isn’t to say that it doesn’t have any visual impact. It stimulates because of the execution of the imagery and layout, rather than what the images look like.
What is more, there are a couple of features to help bulk out the paytable when the excitement starts to wear thin. It won’t bring the harsh thunder of Thor himself, but it will bring free games and Freezing Spins, which sounds a whole lot better to us.
Put the Hammer down
Handling Thor’s legendary hammer isn’t for the weak, quite literally, if you haven’t got the strength of a demi-god then you’ve got no chance of using his weapon against him. Knowing this truth all too well, Gamomat have made the hammer easy to wield, giving players the chance to trigger 10 free games whenever three or more of the scatter icon appears (big hint, it’s the hammer).
During this time, not only will you be able to cool the heat that’s trying to burn a hole in your pockets, but you’ll also be in for stacked wilds, allowing for greater winning combinations overall.
When we tried it out for ourselves, we did find the round more rewarding, but it wasn’t anything to write home about - we still had rounds where we lost, so don’t get too overzealous about these extra wilds. They’re not the answer to all your prayers.
And… FREEZE!
Seeing as controlling the elements is sort of Thor’s main gig, besides behind a long haired and buff looking god, it makes sense that the first reel can be frozen into place throughout the game. This will only happen should you get four of a kind on that 1-reel; they’ll stay in place while the rest of the matrix spins to try and make another win for you.
It’s a very simple but sweet way of making the gameplay stretch that little further, which is very much needed for a low variance title such as Thor’s Hammer.
We never managed to get this feature to work, which may be a hint at the volatility to expect here, but it could also be a sign that Lady Luck wasn’t watching over us today. If we look at the volatility as a whole, it’s medium, and so you can argue that us never getting Freezing Spins is due to a little of column A and a little of column B.
Puny Mortals
Not to judge anyone playing this title, but seeing as you’re in the presence of a god, you may want to think like an immortal and crank the number of winlines up to 40 rather than 20. In truth, either amount will suffice, though there’s no mistaking the added benefits of having 20 more paylines on your side.
To set the total of these lines, you need to play around with the widgets found just above the betting button, to the right hand side of the gaming screen. It’s so easy you shouldn’t need any help finding your feet. As for the amount of money you can play with, it has an accessible range that begins at 0.30 and increases to 60 credits per line (and that’s taking into account the maximum number of winlines).
Oh, Mighty Thor
Thor’s Hammer is a good fantasy based slot machine that will appeal to both fanatics of mythology and superhero fans; it has a lot of range due to the adaptability of the theme. It may not be the snazziest looking slot you’ll play, nor will it be the most rewarding, but it’s easy to interact with and it’s fun. Sometimes that’s all you need.
