Wu Xing

Wu Xing Slots

Virtually every aspect of traditional Chinese culture has been covered in the slot game market. You can find a plethora of virtual New Year celebrations, fireworks included, there, and even more games that will take you undercover within the Forbidden City. But with Wu Xing, the Genesis Gaming developers are taking a slightly different and more spiritual approach.

In this beautifully designed video slot game, players will have to harness the power of the 5 traditional elements in Chinese culture. If the stars and symbols are properly aligned, the energy will flow right through the reels and unlock big wins and free spins. You can learn how to achieve that by reading our complete review of Wu Xing before you start playing.

Providential Signs

Wu Xing literally means “five directions” in Chinese, and actually refers to the 5 traditional elements: water, fire, wood, metal and earth. The game is actually taking place in the middle of a desert, with a single scroll unfolded above the cracked earth. The reels are placed on the scroll itself, flowing with beautiful animations.

Wu Xing has a certain mystical atmosphere, with only the sound of the wind blowing in the background to accompany the soft music that plays as you spin the reels. The result in an otherworldly feeling that invites players to slow down and think before they place their first bet. Rest assured, however, that Wu Xing is rich in dynamic gameplay features nonetheless.

Eyes on the Reels at All Times

Wu Xing is played on 5 reels with 25 paylines drawn across them in total. You task consists simply of choosing a wager from 0.25 to 250 credits and spin the reels when you are ready to start playing. The game includes the usual turbo mode and autoplay as well. With a 95.12% RTP, is slightly below average on the current market but still benefits from a medium volatility, making it theoretically possible to score any kind of prize during the game.

Practically speaking, Wu Xing has proved both dynamic and challenging at times for us. The basic paytable contains the Chinese ideograms from 1 to 5, followed by orbs containing the 5 elements mentioned above. The elements are the rarest symbols, and as a result the most valuable with up to 400 times your wager to win. We spent most of our time winning much smaller prizes in the base game, however.

Fight Between Gods

There is more to Wu Xing than meets the eye, starting with 2 different special symbols. The first one of them is a yin yang symbol that acts as a wild and replaces the basic symbols on the reels easily. On the other hand, 3 or more gongs anywhere on the reels trigger the scatter bonus: 10 free spins where you can choose one of the 5 elements to increase your chances to score wins with this particular symbol.

Last but not least, the Wu Xing feature will begin when all five elements appear on the reels in the proper order: fire, earth, metal, water and wood. Pick one of the elements and enter the arena to fight with the gods and, with a little luck, unlock some surprise rewards. Keep an eye on your life meter to know where you stand at all times.

A Member of a Large Family

Wu Xing is virtually identical to Game Of Swords, another Genesis Gaming slot game. Inspired by Game of Swords, this new game is packed with roughly the same special features and rules. One noticeable difference is the RTP: 97.12%, making it noticeably more generous than Wu Xing, overall.

The sheer number of Chinese-inspired slot games makes it hard to pick just one that would be representative of them all. With 25 paylines and up to 20 free spins to win, this is one promising-looking slot game as well.

More Challenging Than It Seems

Wu Xing takes a slightly different approach to a very popular theme on the slot game market. We found the result straightforward and refreshing, with easy basic rules and still some original elements to unlock. The Wu Xing feature is visually impressive and potentially very rewarding. Unfortunately, lining up all the elements probably is also quite difficult to achieve.

In short, Wu Xing is a more challenging slot game than its basic statistics might hint at. We weren’t really able to win any sizeable reward at first, and it took us some extra credits to be able to see some big wins start piling up. Experienced players probably won’t mind this little challenge, but newcomers might run out of patience too soon.
