Nothing but the reels
Cabin Fever might indeed make you feel a little claustrophobic, given the lack of depth and background.
The reels occupy almost the entire game screen, with only a small frame around the matrix that lets you catch a glimpse of the interior of the log gaming. The reels are themselves covered in snow and frost, and a regular command bar takes up the leftover space at the bottom.
In a nutshell, Cabin Fever does not offer a lot to look at besides the necessary gameplay elements, and it is ultimately up to you to decide whether it is a good thing or not. We could certainly have used a little more backstory here, but since there is none to be found let’s just move on to the basic game rules.
Prepare for a long winter
Cabin Fever offers a straightforward gameplay and bundles all the commands you need at the bottom of the game screen.
The 5x3 reel matrix is a classic feature, with 20 paylines available in total. The command bar lets you choose you wager, the number of activated paylines as well as the number of coins you wish to bet on your next spin. Bigger bets cost more, but they can also yield bigger rewards in the future. Choose your settings carefully and hit the spin button to launch the game.
Pay close attention to the bet max button as well. This seemingly innocuous switch is actually quite powerful, as it lets you go all-in with just one click of your mouse, on all paylines. Probably the boldest move you could make, but also potentially the most rewarding. Think carefully, follow your gut feeling and have fun with the bet settings a little before starting up the reels.
Frozen reel symbols
Given the rigorous winter, all the symbols in Cabin Fever are covered with a thick layer of frost. It is your job to see past the ice and identify the most valuable symbols, line them up and collect the rewards.
It starts with some classic icons like cherries, plums, lemons, watermelons and oranges. These frozen fruits appear often during the game but only yield modest rewards - which means that you will have to score many combinations to amount to a decent win.
The bear family makes up the rest of the paytable. From the small baby to the other kids, mom and dad, all of them award decent to downright huge wins should you land a few long combinations. Keep your eyes peeled though, as these bears are not as common as you may think.
Special features
The squirrel symbol is a scatter that awards some decent cash prizes regardless of alignment. Simple land two or more of the tiny creatures on the reels at the same time to collect your bonus prize.
The frozen wild card can help you complete winning combinations by substituting for any other basic symbol as listed in the previous section. Upon doing so, the value of the completed combination is instantly doubled, no questions asked.
Finally, the sun symbol is yet another scatter that can only appear on reels 1 and 5. Land two of them in the same spin to trigger a bonus round of 20 free spins, with a generous x2 multiplier applied to all your future wins.
You give me Fever
Cabin Fever might not look like much at first sight, but it contains a generous array of bonus features that can easily spice up your game for not cost at all.
Not to mention the optional gamble mini game you can trigger after each win during the base game for a chance to double your reward. With all these gameplay options, Cabin Fever can rapidly turn into a quick way to make some extra money while having fun. Just what you need before winter arrives.
