Mummy Slots

If we had to pick a single topic that was the most widely covered by slot machines, it would have to be ancient Egypt. Quite why this has come about is a bit of a mystery, but there’s a huge number of games dedicated to the subject and most of them seem to stick to very similar icons, packing their reels with Scarab Beetles, Pharaoh masks, hieroglyphics and of course, the occasional corpse wrapped in white linen, which is just what the Mummy video slot from XPlay is all about. This game sticks with traditional symbols and even puts the reels in a virtual slot machine cabinet to give players the impression that they’re at a bricks and mortar casino, or spinning the reels in an arcade or the local pub.

That slot machine cabinet looks like it’s been carved from stone though, which is an example of the little details that XPlay have added to this game. Those extend to animations that play out when you land a winner, with the Mummy gnashing his teeth and the Beetle giving a wiggle when they become part of a winning line for example. Adding to the whole ancient Egyptian feeling is a nice soundtrack that’s just the sort of thing you would expect to hear as you walked through the streets of Thebes, the capital of ancient Egypt.

Although the XPlay casino games developer don’t promote themselves very much, they have released a few slot machines to the online and mobile markets in recent years. Like all their games, Mummy has an independently verified guarantee of fair play, where results are determined by Random Number Generators, and each slot has their own bonus features, styles and payouts to add interest.

An Ancient Adventure

The five blue reels of Mummy are crossed by nine paylines which pay coins out from both the left and right sides whenever you land three or more of the same symbol across a line. By paying out from both sides, it effectively doubles the winning frequency when compared with most games that only reward you with a prize when lines of symbols start from the left side. This isn’t the only way to get cash out of the game, as a wild symbol will help to complete combinations, plus there’s a simple but fun bonus game that has a guaranteed prize.

The Info button opens up a paytable which details what you win for each combination and in common with many slots, there’s playing card symbols at the bottom of the payscale. The K, set on a gold pyramid pendant, is worth 5x, 20x, or 100x the line bet when it’s on three, four, or five reels, while the A symbol on a purple pendant is valued at 10x, 25x, or 150x.

Classic symbols that will be familiar to anyone who has spun the reels of a slot with a similar theme include the Pharoah’s mask, which is worth up to 200x the line stake and a golden Scarab Beetle that returns up to 250x. The dog-headed God Anubis pays up to 300x the line stake and our friendly Mummy is valued at 20x, 150x and 500x when he lands on three, four and five reels across an active payline.

Beetles and Bones in a Box Trigger Bonuses

Another Scarab Beetle, this time a colourful blue and red creature, is a wild symbol and as well as paying out the top prizes when it’s seen across a line, with up to 2000x to be won, it can substitute for any other standard symbol if needed to complete a combination.

If the partly-opened sarcophagus symbol stops in any three or more places at once, the bonus game is triggered. This opens up a second screen which sees five sarcophagi lined up and it’s just a simple matter of clicking on any of these to have the Mummy step out and reveal a bonus prize. All of these contain a win of some sort, so once the round has been triggered, you’re certain to collect something, even if it’s not the biggest reward possible.

Doubling Winnings

After a win, you can try to double the prize several times over in a special Beat The Dealer gamble feature, which takes you to a series of playing cards. The left side card has been turned over to reveal the value, while the other four are face down. Pick a face down card and if it’s worth more than the upturned one, you double your win and can either collect it, or go again.

Bear in mind that getting a wrong pick at any stage loses the round, along with the initial prize, but this Mummy gamble game is an optional feature and one with lots of winning potential.

Money on the Mummy

There’s the flexibility to play one, three, five, seven or all nine paylines, but clearly to have every winning mix of symbols pay out, you’ll need to have a bet on all lines. At a low limit just 0.09 per spin, it’s a no-brainer to activate them all and when you have the maximum stake of 90.00, the prizes are going to be pretty substantial.

To save time and effort, you can also click the Auto button and have the reels spin on their own, which also cuts out some of the lag in gameplay as animations can hold things up whenever you get a winning spin.

Other Trips to Ancient Times

Trying to find more slots based on the same topic isn’t the most difficult job in the world but trying to pick just a couple of favourites from the huge number available is a lot harder. The Egyptian Adventure slot from Spinomenal has a similar cartoon Mummy as the star, along with golden Scarab Beetles and even Anubis pops his doggy head up.

It’s got a unique way of turning losing spins into winners, as each time you fail to land a prize, a multiplier bar at the top of the reels starts to fill up. The next time you get a win, the prize will be boosted by the highest multiplier amount reached so far. On top of this nice treat, the Queen is a wild symbol and you can claim ten free spins with three or more scattered Anubis symbols.

Suacify have things all wrapped up in their Purse of the Mummy slot game. A brave archaeologist is hunting treasures within an ancient tomb and finding valuable objects such as a pharaoh’s mask which acts as a wild multiplier symbol, plus a scarab beetle that triggers a fun racing game. The scary mummy will take you to 15 free spins and any more mummy symbols that appear in the feature will add extra spins and further multipliers to winnings.

A game Worth Unwrapping

We can’t claim that Mummy is the most sophisticated slot machine with an ancient Egyptian theme, but it’s a charming game that has some fun animations from the cartoon-y symbols.

The more serious business of collecting wins is taken care of by the high return to player percentage and fair play that comes as standard with XPlay slot games, so if you like the subject matter, then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t like this fun, mobile optimised game.
