Magic Quest

Magic Quest Slot

Ever since Lord of the Rings, Dungeons and Dragons and all the Legend of Zelda games, fantasy quests filled with magic and danger have always been a phenomenon. But how well can that element be successfully transferred to a slot machine game?

WorldMatch has had a stab at it with Magic Quest – and they’ve done a good job too.

Is This Just Fantasy?

Magic Quest begins with a fixed screen intro. While the seconds at the bottom of the screen count down, the name of the game is introduced with the Free Spin, Wild and Scatter symbols, as well as the isolated rocky setting in which the game takes place.

From there, you’re right in the game and staring at one of the more unflattering visuals. The problem with the 5 reels is that as all of the main icons have the same background colour. And as there are no gaps between either the rows or columns, it actually looks more like a jigsaw puzzle.

The icons themselves don’t look so great either. While they do get the creatures right in terms of looking like you would get in a child’s cartoon, the overall colours aren’t strong enough to really capture your attention. They could also do with being closer to the screen as you lose the sense of detail and don’t stand out so much with the rocky background.

Above these reels you have the name of the game in golden letters and medieval writing. There are chains on the top of either side of the reels next to two whirling wheels. Each give a sense of immediacy and that time is of the essence. The graphic symbol on the top edge of each screen gives the idea of a map to decode. This is a mission that is of utmost importance. Are you up to the challenge?

One Ring (And Other Symbols) to Rule Them All

There are 9 different symbols, with the elixir being worth most with a maximum value of 2,500 if you get 5 of them and a cool 1,000 if you get 4. The ring is the next most valuable with 5 of them worth 1,000 credits, 750 more than the next symbol. Other symbols include a scratching claw, a crown, a key, two different villains, a book and a spiky ball and chain.

The game has the traditional navigation traits from WorldMatch in that playing the game and changing the settings are easy to do. The 25-line game can be played at 1, 5, 10, 15 and 25, with the actual lines showing up on the screen when you change them. The numbers are also on the side of the reels. There are also 7 betting options of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 or 100 credits, though if you’re feeling the magic power, you can go straight to Max Bet and 100 credits. These credits are only in cents and euros. If you want to take it easy you can use Autoplay that has 7 different options, ranging from 5 to 1,000 spins.

Bonus Quests

Lines pay left to right unless there is a Scatter which pays anywhere. You can increase your chances through the Wildcard and bonuses. The Wildcard, a jewelled hand, replaces everything except Free Spin and Bonus Game. If you get 3 or more Free Spins, the angry villain icon, you get 12 free spins. You’ll receive credits too, ranging from 10 to 100 depending if you obtain 3, 4 or 5.

When the Free Spin becomes available, you play at the same betting lines and credit. With the Free Spin you can also get additional extras through Magic Spins, Free Spins, Bonus Games and Bonus Spin Games. If you get 3 or more Bonus Game symbols (a dragon), you get an extra game. You get taken to a special room where you choose a book from 6 different columns with the amount you win depending on the order you choose. It’s not clear how much you are able to gain but the winnings are shown in a very cool dazzling manner.

The game has plenty of cool extras, including the possibility putting the game on Fast Play, sharing your winning screen scores on social media and using keyboard shortcuts. Apart from making it quicker to play the game, these shortcuts mean you can change some of the other settings, including editing your balance and accessing your private cashier. There’s also a very high return to player rate of 98.48%.

Magical Fun

The theme and visuals of the game will lose some, but the gameplay itself has plenty of things in its favour. It’s easy to play, has fun bonuses and great flexibility. It may focus on fantasy, but it still has elements of fantastic too.
